Examination: -


College Exams for F. Y. and S. Y. Students:
  1. First and Second Term Examinations :
    There shall be two examinations, one at the end of each term and they shall be called First Term Examination and Second Term Examination respectively. Both Term Examinations shall be of equal marks and of equal duration. The First Term examination shall be based on the portion of the syllabus taught in the First Term and the Second Term examination shall be based on the portion of the syllabus taught in the Second Term, as prescribed by the Boards of Studies and approved by the Academic Council.
    The Practical Examination in a subject shall be held only once and before the end of Second Term.

  2. Schemes for paper without practical and paper with practical.

    1. Paper without practical Marks (50+50) = 100
      First Term Examination Marks 50 (Duration 2 Hrs.)
      Second Term Examination Marks 50 (Duration 2 Hrs.)

    2. Paper with Practical Marks (30+30) = 60
      First Term Examination Marks 50 (Duration 2 Hrs.)
      Second Term Examination Marks 50 (Duration 2 Hrs.)
      (Marks secured at each term examination are to be converted out of 30 marks.) Practical Examination Marks 40 per paper.

      NOTE:
      In subjects where project/tutorials are prescribed as part of the workload in the syllabus, the papers in such subjects for each term examination shall be of 50 marks and 2 hrs. duration. Marks secured in each paper shall be appropriately converted into theory component (marks out of 40 or 45 as applicable) and remaining marks shall be treated for project/tutorials as applicable.

  3. Additional Examination (Aided Courses) :

    1. Eligibility to appear at the additional examination :

      A student who does not appear in some or all the papers, either at the First Term Examination or at the Second Term Examination on medical grounds or for representing the college/University in sports, cultural activities, activities of NCC, NSS, conducted by recognized bodies/competent authorities or for any other reason which is considered valid under exceptional circumstances and to the satisfaction of the Principal is eligible to appear for the additional examination. In case of absenteeism at either of the term end exam the student is required to submit to the Principal in writing stating the reason for his/her absenteeism along with the relevant supporting document (Medical certificate / Certificate for Participation in any of the above mentioned activities) within a period of two days of the conduct of the said examination. A student who does not appear at both term examinations in any subject shall not be eligible to appear for the additional examination.

    2. Nature of the additional examination :
      The additional examination shall be of two hours duration and of 50 marks per paper/subject. The student shall appear for the paper/subject of the term examination which he/she has missed.

      NOTE :
      In subjects having papers with practicals and in subjects where project/tutorials are prescribed as part of workload in the syllabus, the marks obtained in such a paper/subject shall be converted appropriately as explained in II above.


  4. Standard of Passing : The passing in the subject shall be based on the aggregate of marks of the First and Second Term examinations taken together or marks of first term examination and the additional examination taken together or marks of the second term examination and the additional examination taken together.

    The appearance at both term examinations, tutorial evaluation and the practical examination shall be compulsory.

    In order to pass in a subject a student must secure :

    1. A minimum of 35% marks in subject, having only one paper.
    2. In a subject having more than one paper, a minimum of 20% marks in each paper and a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate.
    3. In case of subject with practicals, a minimum of 35% marks in practicals separately.

  5. Exemption :
    An unsuccessful candidate who obtains the minimum percentage of marks prescribed for passing in a subject practical may, at his her option, be exempted from appearing in that subject / practical at his / her subsequent appearance and will be declared to have passed the whole examination on his / her passing in the remaining subjects / practicals in which he / she has failed.

  6. Ex-Students :
    Candidates who have been declared failed at the examination or who have been allowed to keep terms for the higher class shall appear as Ex-student for the annual examination held by the college. The annual examination shall be of three hours duration and of 100 marks covering the entire syllabus (both first term and second term).

    A - Eligibility to appear at the annual examination :

    A student, who has failed or is allowed to keep terms for higher class is eligible to appear at the annual examination.

    University examination for T. Y. students:

    Only those students who satisfy the following condition will be permitted to appear for the University examination.

    1. Satisfactory attendance i.e. minimum 75% of attendance at the lectures, practicals and tutorial separately.

    2. Satisfactory academic performance in terminal / preliminary examination.

      The First & Second Year B. A. / B. Sc. / B. Com. examinations are conducted by the college on behalf of University of Mumbai during the month of March as per the rules prescribed by it. The third year B. A. / B. Sc. / B. Com. examination will be conducted by the University of Mumbai as per the date announced by the University. Those who fail the annual examination or are allowed to keep terms can appear in the papers in which they have failed during the month of October every year.

      Students suffering from Dyslexia, Dysgraphia & Dyscalculia or are visually impaired /low vision/physically challenged are requested to contact college office to obtain details about the facilities available to them for examinations. They are required to produce the relevant documents to avail the benefits.

    3. CANDIDATE IS ELIGIBLE FOR T.Y. ADMISSION ONLY WHEN HE/SHE PASSES ONE OF THE LOWER EXAMINATIONS WITHOUT A.T.K.T.
      AWARD OF CLASS FOR FIRST AND SECOND YEAR CLASSES (Arts, Science & Commerce Faculty)
      A candidate who secures 60% or more marks on the aggregate will be awarded a First Class.

      A candidate who obtains an aggregate of 45% or more marks but less than 60% marks will be awarded a Second Class.

      A.T.K.T. Rules :-

      F. Y. B. A. :-
      A candidate will be eligible for S.Y.B.A. admission provided he/she does not fail in more than two heads of passing (For F.Y.B.A., two subjects only carrying 100 marks each, maximum 200 marks.)

      S. Y. B. A. :- A candidate will be eligible for T.Y.B.A. admission provided he/she does not fail in more than two heads of passing and also not more than 300 marks. (For S.Y.B.A., the ancillary subjects are of 200 marks and applied component and F.C. 100 marks each).

      A CANDIDATE IS ELIGIBLE FOR T.Y.B.A. ADMISSION ONLY WHEN HE/SHE PASSES ONE OF THE LOWER EXAMINATIONS WITHOUT A.T.K.T.

      F. Y. B. Com. :-
      A candidate will be eligible for S.Y.B.Com. admission provided he/she does not fail in more than two heads of passing (For F.Y.B.Com., two subjects only carrying 100 marks each, maximum 200 marks).
      S. Y. B. Com. :- A candidate is eligible for T. Y. B. Com. admission provided he/she does not fail in more than two heads of passing (For S. Y. B. Com., two subjects only carrying 100 marks each, maximum 200 marks).

      A CANDIDATE IS ELIGIBLE FOR T. Y. B. COM. ADMISSION WHEN HE/SHE PASSES ONE OF THE LOWER EXAMINATIONS WITHOUT A. T. K. T.

      F. Y. B. Sc. :-
      Appeared at the F.Y.B.Sc. examination and has failed in not more than two heads of passing total of which shall not exceed 220 marks in which case he/she will be required to appear at the F.Y.B.Sc. examination in the head or heads of passing in which he/she has failed either previously or simultaneously with the S.Y.B.Sc. examination and his / her result of S.Y.B.Sc. examination will not be declared unless he/she has passed in the head or heads of passing, in which he/she has failed either previously or simultaneously with the S.Y.B.Sc. examination and his / her result of S.Y.B.Sc. examination will not be declared, unless he/she has passed in the head or heads of passing, in which he/she failed at the F.Y.B.Sc. examination.

      S. Y. B. Sc. :- Appeared at the S.Y.B.Sc. examination and has failed in not more than two heads of passing total of which shall not exceed 300 marks, in which case he/she will be required to appear at the S.Y.B.Sc. examination in the head or heads of passing in which he/she has failed, either previously or simultaneously with the T.Y.B.Sc. examination and his/her results of T.Y.B.Sc. examination will not be declared unless he/she has passed in the head or heads of passing, in which he/she has failed at the S.Y.B.Sc. examination.

      Further, the Ordinances and Regulations relating to the B.Sc. degree course will be amended accordingly.

      A CANDIDATE IS ELIGIBLE FOR T.Y.B.Sc. ADMISSION WHEN HE/SHE PASSES ONE OF THE LOWER EXAMINATION WITHOUT ATKT.

      GRACE RULES

      ORDINANCE 5042 : GRACE MARKS FOR PASSING IN EACH HEAD OF PASSING (THEORY/PRACTICAL, ORAL/SESSIONAL) EXTERNAL / INTERNAL)


      The examine shall be given the benefit of grace marks only for passing in each head of passing (Theory/Practical/Oral/Sessional) in External or Internal examination as follows :

  7. Head of Passing Grace Marks upto

    151 -- 200 5
    201 -- 250 6
    251 -- 300 7
    301 -- 350 8
    351 -- 400 9
    and 401 and above 10



    Provided that the benefit of such gracing marks given in different heads of passing shall not exceed 1% of the aggregate marks in that examination.

    Provided further that the benefit of gracing of marks under this Ordinance shall be applicable only if the candidate passes the entire examination of semester/year.

    ORDINANCE 5043 GRACE MARKS FOR GETTING HIGHER CLASS.
    A candidate who passes in all the subjects and heads of passing in the examination without the benefit of either gracing or condonation rules and whose total number of marks falls short for securing Second Class/Higher Second Class or First Class by marks not more 1% of the aggregate marks of that examination or up to 10 marks, which ever is less, shall be given the required marks to get the next higher class or grade as the case may be.

    Provided that benefits of above mentioned grace marks shall not be given, if the candidate fails to secure necessary passing marks in the aggregate head of passing also, if prescribed, in the examination concerned.

    Provided further that benefits of above mentioned grace marks shall be given to the candidate for such examination/s only for which provision of award of class has been prescribed.

    ORDINANCE 5044 GRACE MARKS FOR GETTING DISTINCTION IN THE SUBJECT ONLY
    A candidate who passes in all the Subjects/Heads of passing in the examination without benefit of either gracing or condonation rules and whose total number of marks in the subject/s falls short by not more than three marks for getting distinction in the subject/s shall be given necessary grace marks up to three in maximum two subjects, subject to maximum 1% of the total marks of that Head of Passing whichever is more, in a given examination.

    Provided that benefit of the above mentioned grace marks shall be given to the candidate only for such examination/s for which provision for distinction in a subject has been prescribed.

    ORDINANCE 5045 CONDONATION
    If a candidate fails in only one head of passing having passed in all other heads of passing, his/her deficiency of marks in such head of passing may be condoned by not more than 1% of the aggregate marks of the examination or 10% of the total number of marks of that head of passing in which he/she is failing, whichever is less. However condonation, whether in one head of passing or aggregate head of passing be restricted to maximum up to 10 marks only.

    Condonation of deficiency of marks be shown in the Statement of Marks in the form of asterisk (*) and Ordinance number.

    Exemption :
    An unsuccessful candidate who obtains minimum percentage of marks prescribed for passing a subject/practical will be exempted, at his option, from appearing in that subject/practical at subsequent appearance and he will be declared to have passed the whole examination after passing in the remaining subject/practicals.

    The candidates who are declared failed at the examination will appear as ex-student with or without exemption either in the examination to be held in October of the same year or in March of the next year.

    1. Verification of Marks :Verification of the marks will be done on payment of a fee of Rs.50/- per paper.

    2. Revaluation of Marks :

      1. There is a facility of obtaining Photo/Zerox copy/ies of assessed and / or moderated answer book/s by the examinee/s.

      2. The Photo/Zerox copy/ies shall be supplied on the payment of non-refundable fess of Rs. 100/- per answer book which shall have to be paid by the examinee/s and 50% concession for reserve category examinees.

      3. On receipt of Photo/Zerox copy/ies of desired answer book/s, if the examinee is not satisfied with the marks awarded to him/her by the original examiner or in accordance with relevant Ordinance he/she may apply for redressal of grievance to the College/Institution in the prescribed form, challenging the valuation done.

      4. The prescribed application form duly filled in shall be submitted with a fee of Rs. 250/- per paper to the respective College/Institution and 50% concession for reserve categories.

      5. The Redressal Committee, so constituted, shall verify the original answer book/s and evaluate the mark/s allotted to the answer/s in the light of the reasons of grievance and the points of challenge to valuation, put down by the applicant examinee if his/her application, and shall make specific recommendations in writing, whether the contentions of the applicant has any merit and thereby justifies re-assessment or the contentions are baseless and deserves to be rejected. The considered decision of the Redressal Committee shall be final and binding.

        UNFAIR MEANS ADOPTED DURING EXAMINATIONS :

        THE QUANTUM OF PUNISHMENT SHALL VARY FROM ANNULMENT OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE STUDENT DURING EXAMS IN FULL, (ANNUAL THEORY & PRACTICALS) TO DEBARRING THE STUDENTS FROM APPEARING IN ANY FUTURE EXAMS.

        THE MINIMUM PUNISHMENT, THEREFORE, IS CANCELLATION OF THE ENTIRE EXAMINATION.


        ORDINANCE 229: EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIVES
        Grace marks will be awarded to students under the above ordinance for extra curricular activities like NCC, NSS, Sports, Cultural activities, etc.
