ACTIVITY REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2005

6th August 2005 : Prof.Chakradev from CHM college Ulhasnagar conducted a session on "Principles of Machanics and optics" wherein he demonstrated many experiments for the benefit of science students.

6th and 24thAugust 2005: Our students participated in the Elocution and Poster making competitions organized by Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization for the Chembur zone colleges.

9th to 26th August 2005: Our College sent its team for various sports Competitions organized by the University of Mumbai during this time. Our students reached the 2nd round of the Chess Tournament (Competition is still going on), 3rd and 4th round of team and individual Table-Tennis Tournament, 3rd round of the Badminton Tournament and 2nd round of the Football Tournament. More significantly, in the University Cross Country Competition, the men's team Secured the 11th position among all Mumbai colleges.

13th August 2005 : A meeting of the Principal with the teaching staff was held on 13th August 2005 to discuss about examination , administration and other academic matters.

13th August 2005: The S.Y.B.Sc. (Physics) students made a presentation on "Dawn of Quantum Machanics".

14th & 15th August 2005: A group of 21 students from our College participated in the two days National Convention of the 'Youth For Sewai held on 14th & 15th August. The convention was organized by YFS an NGO that works for the promotion of education among the Adivasis through 'Ekal Vidyalaya'.

Our students participated in preparing Charts and Floor decoration on the occasion. The Rangolis and Adivasi Lamp made our students particularly caught the attention of every visitor. The Varli painting depicting various dimensions of the Adivasi life was particularly appreciated by all. The students also attended the technical sessions through the two days. Mr. & Mrs. Keswani, Managing Trustees of our Society attended the inauguration function. Dr. Suniti Nagpurkar and Prof. Parinita Madan guided the students and attended the programme on behalf of the College.

17th ,18th, 22nd & 23rd August 2005: After a series of semi - finals, the following five students from our college were selected to participate in the finals of various competitions of the University Youth Festival:-Mr.Changdev (S.Y.B.Com) for Elocution in Marathi, Ms.Rohini (T.Y.B.Com) for Elocution in English, Mr.Mukesh Makwana for Collage, Mr.Anurag Chakrborty (T.Y.B.Com) for Indian Light Vocal and Ms.Prachi Mulay (S.Y.B.Com) for Mono Acting. Our Students also participated in "Umang" and "Malhar" festivals. 17th-19thAugust 2005: The department of Physics organized a "Conference on Physics Education" from the

17th to 19th August. 20thAugust 2005: The Physics Association screened a discovery channel film titled "Night Hawk" for the benefit of Science students.

20th August 2005: Students of SYIT conducted a hardware workshop for SYIT class on 20th August.

20th and 21st August 2005: At the Invitational State Level Karate Championship 2005 for Maharashtra that was organized by Indian Amateur Sports Karate-do Association, on 20th & 21st August, Mr.Subhas Das of T.Y.B.A. (Eco + Commerce) won a Gold medal and Mr.Aftab Ayub of T.Y.B.A.(Eco) and Mr.Pankaj Chandelia of T.Y.B.Com won a silver medal each. They were accompanied by a student coach, Mr.Mayur Bansode from T.Y.B.A.(Soc.)

23rd August 2005: MBT conducted a Joint Campus Recruitment on 23rd August for TY (Comp.Sci), TY (Info.Tech) and TY (Physics) students in our college. Students from SK Somaiya College also participated in the program. The campus recruitment consisted of a written test, technical Interview and HR interview. Two girls from TY (Comp.Sci) got selected and they were given the offer letter on the same day.

23rd and 27th August 2005 : The Microbiology and Biotechnology Association organized the inauguration function on the 23rd of August. The highlight of this function was the release of the departmental magazine, "In Vivo". The department also organized a felicitation function for Ms Prajakta Oak who stood first in the Microbiology Stream of University of Mumbai.

24th August 2005: The Commerce Association Organized a Poster Making Competition on 24th August on the topic "Consumer - the King " and "The Brand War".

27th August 2005: NIIT gave seminar on "Introduction to Dot Net Technologies" for TY students on 27th August. They also compared the technology with Java.

27th August 2005: The T.Y.B.Sc (Chemistry) students presented a seminar on "Nuclear Chemistry" on 27th August at 11.10 a.m.

30th August 2005 : SY (Info.Tech) students presented a seminar on Network Topologies to FY (Info Tech.) students on 30th August.

 

FACULTY ACTIVITIES AT A GLANCE

  • Prof. Manjurika Das and Prof.Umesh Chauhan were invited as judges for the All India AECS Social Science Exhibition at AECS-5 New Mandala, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai on 14th and 15th August 2005.
  • Prof. Aarohi Parimu Khar made a presentation on 6th August 205 to the staff members on a proposed "Counselling Cell" to be set up in the college for the benefit of the students.
  • Prof. Atul Mody attended a Course in C + + that was organized by the department of Physics, University of Mumbai from 10th - 16th August.
  • Prof. Deepa Venkitesh attended a one-day workshop on 'STOP' at St.Xavier's college on 18th August.
  • Principal (Mrs.) Jharna Das attended a meeting called by the Vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai to discuss various academic and administrative matters on 13th August.
